Partnering with beauty brand L’Oreal, for whom Fonda is an ambassador, the fashion magazine announced that the 81-year-old would grace the cover of its May issue.
The special edition of the style bible is being called the “Non-Issue” issue, that seeks to dismiss age as a barrier holding women back.
British Vogue‘s Editor-in-Chief, Edward , says the issue is an important project.
“For me, promoting diversity in Vogue has never been solely about a person’s ethnicity or gender,” he explains.
“It’s about diversity across the board. Seeing the amazing array of women over 50 in this special edition proves that a person’s age will always be a more intriguing, nuanced and inspiring factor than a simple number could ever suggest.“
While the full issue of the magazine isn’t available until Friday 5 April, British Vogue has given readers a sneak peek at Fonda’s interview with a series of Instagram posts.
Alongside a photo of the Grace and Frankie actor wearing a black and silver fringed two-piece, an extract from Fonda’s interview reveals that she is proud of her age.
“I like being over the hill because I’ve discovered there’s a whole new landscape,” she says.
“I’m fond of age. I’m glad I’ve lived this long.”
A second post, featuring an image of Fonda wearing a crisp white blazer, reads: “It’s important to understand that older women are the fastest-growing demographic in the whole world.
“It’s time to recognise our value.”
Followers of the magazine have flooded the posts with praise, with some referring to Fonda as a “goddess” and “icon”.
“What a woman!” one person commented.
Another added: “Jane is amazing! Such an example of an extraordinary woman!”
Meanwhile, supermodel Kate Moss, 45, has been selected as the cover star of the official May issue of British Vogue, marking the 40th month that she has fronted the publication.
This week also saw Celion announced as the newest global spokesperson for L’Oreal Paris.
The 51-year-old said she “never saw it coming” and joins the likes of Fonda and Dame Helen Mirren in her new role.
The “Non-Issue” Issue of British Vogue goes on sale from Friday 5 April.
