Yamaha introduced new electric scooter with exchangeable battery

Expected in August 2019 for the Taiwanese market only, Yamaha’s new electric scooter, the EC-05, will benefit from Gogoro’s infrastructure network that is expected to optimize the user experience during a recharge session.

With a partnership established with Gogoro in September 2018, the Japanese manufacturer Yamaha has unveiled its latest electric scooter named EC-05, eight years after the release of the EC-03. Presented by means of a press release published on its Taiwanese site – initially, only Taiwan will host the product – the two-wheeled was not revealed in full.

A convenient and fast charging system

In addition to the release date (August 2019) and a promotional video posted on YouTube, nothing or almost nothing to put in their mouths. The close relationship with Gogoro last year, on the other hand, gives us a fairly clear idea of how it works: the EC-05 is equipped with interchangeable batteries that the user will only have to replace in seconds. thanks to the recharge network developed by his partner.

Gogoro has indeed set up a network based on a simple principle: in exchange for a sum of money, its stations offer full batteries to barter against the empty battery of your scooter. A convenient and fast way to hit the road without wasting time. For the rest of the characteristics, however, it will be necessary to show patience. Yamaha preferred to play the card of discretion.

Yamaha, some ambitions on the niche of the electric

For its part, the specialized site Electrek has a double battery giving it a range of 100 kilometers. Or a durability for the least correct for a machine reserved for urban travel.

The EC-05 is one of Yamaha’s major milestones for its positioning on the electric. To see if the electro motorcycle patents identified last April will materialize in a concrete project.
