“I actually did grow up on a Christmas tree farm,” Swift tweeted to announce the video. “In a gingerbread house, deep within the yummy gummy gumdrop forest. Where, funnily enough, this song is their national anthem.”
Swift released two videos for “Christmas Tree Farm” at midnight Friday.
The first video contained rare home video footage of Swift and her family. The second was a lyric video for everyone looking to memorize the new song ASAP.
Earlier Thursday, Swift teased the new song and video in a tweet featuring several cats.
In the video, Swift playfully asks her cat if she should wait a year to put the new holiday tune out and decides to do it anyway.
“When in doubt, ask the itty bitty pretty kitty committee,” Swift said in the tweet. “When they shun you with silence, ambivalence, and judgmental brush offs… just put the song out anyway.”
“Christmas Tree Farm” is not Swift’s first time releasing holiday material.
Her 2007 “Taylor Swift Holiday Collection” EP featured covers of George Michael’s “Last Christmas,” “White Christmas,” “Silent Night,” and originals “Christmases When You Were Mine” and “Christmas Must Be Something More.”
The video is also set to air on Friday’s “Good Morning America.”
