Delhi (NNI) Indian Supreme Court seeks response from Modi government over controversial citizenship law. According to media reports, about 143 petitions filed by citizens will hear a 5-member bench headed by Chief Justice of India Justice Sharad Arvind Bobde .

According to Indian media, the Supreme Court has directed the Modi government to file a response within 4 weeks, refusing to submit a ruling on the Citizenship Controversial Law Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA). To file against the law ,the five-member bench will hear a hearing on more than 140 petitions, which will not issue an order without hearing the government on the matter, while the bench will also issue a provisional order on these petitions. So far, all the High Courts have also been barred from hearing on the applications filed by the CAA. Besides, the Supreme Court has declared separate applications of the Indian state of Assam and Tripura in the same case. It also rejected a petition filed January 9 that calls for the CAA to be constitutional The court remarked that the country is going through hard times, so it should take steps for peace
