The long-awaited Mueller report into alleged collusion between Donald Trump and Russia has been submitted.

The confidential file has been sent to Attorney General William Barr, who will then send a summary to Congress.

The report, the findings of which could be used to move to impeach Mr Trump, are looking into Russian election interference and possible co-ordination with his associates.

The findings are unknown at this stage and it will be Mr Barr’s decision how much will be made public.Mr Barr has said he could update Congress as early as this weekend.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said: “The next steps are up to Attorney General Barr, and look forward to the process taking its course. The White House has not received or been briefed on the special counsel’s report.”

Mr Trump’s lawyers said they are “pleased” the report has been delivered and that Mr Barr “will determine the appropriate next steps.”

Experts have argued that if the report contains information which could serve as grounds to impeach the president then the entire file should be published.

Mr Mueller has spent almost two years looking into two main areas relating to alleged Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

The first area of examination is into potential collusion between any Trump associated with Russian inference in the election, the second is whether efforts have been made to obstruct the investigation.

A number of scalps have already been claimed by the investigation, most recently seeing Mr Trump’s former personal lawyer Michael Cohen turning his back on his ex-boss – calling him a ‘racist and a conman‘.

The report was commissioned with the brief that Special Counsel Robert Mueller should file a confidential report to the attorney general.
